Quilt Market Frenzy!

We just returned from the Portland Quilt Market – and was it ever wonderful! So many beautiful fabrics, new designers, new techniques and products.  So much to see and so little time!  But Mary and I came away with some great ideas, new books, and some drop dead gorgeous fabric that should start showing up at the shop over the next few weeks.  We were especially excited about some new Australian, Aboriginal designs that we picked up, and especially about two new designers we found — one from Pocatello, the other from Italy.

You’ve never seen so many quilters in one spot……………here’s a picture of a few of them waiting to get into the sample spree the first evening:

We can’t wait to share all we saw, learned and bought!  Watch for our email blasts for the latest information!

I Love My Job!

I can’t think of anything more fun than working in a quilt shop, regardless of the fact that I own it too.  This really hit home last week when, on Saturday, we had a visitor from Bremerton, WA who brought in a quilt that he thought was made by his Aunt or his Grandmother and wondered if we could help him date it.  It was made totally out of yo-yo’s (if you don’t know what those are, stop by the shop and we’ll show you)! We figured there were over 2,000 handmade, hand pieced yoyo’s on this quilt!  We oohed and aahed over it, trying to figure out an age when Pamela came over and pointed to one of the yoyos and said they were made from flour sacks because she used to have a dress made from one on the fabrics in the quilt when she was a little girl and it had been made out of a flour sack!  What a small world!

We figured that it was probably made in the late 1920’s early 1930’s when flour sacks were still being used for clothing and quilts.  What do you think?  It was absolutely stunning! And what a great treat for a Saturday morning!

That’s one reason I love my job — the other is helping people choose fabrics and colors for their projects.  I am always totally amazed at some of the combinations that I would never have put together, but looked absolutely fabulous together!  The next best thing is seeing the finished projects!  That’s one reason we tempt you all in on the first Saturday of each month with a 10% discount on batting and fabric to finish off your project if you bring in your finished top.  We LOVE seeing the final product!

We will eventually have a bragging page on our website so we can download photos of the quilts you bring in to show us.

So, don’t hesitate to bring in those finished quilts – it absolutely makes our day when you do!  and is the reason I love my job!

Pie Fixes Everything

I’m trying to set up my PayPal account so I can sell my beautiful yarns online and the verification process has me frustrated.  It’s now my time of the afternoon when I rely on a double shot latte and a happy carbohydrate of choice, today’s being a slice of the most luscious looking cherry pie at Market Limone across the street from the shop.  There is just something incredibly soothing about a finely crafted pie and sips of “incineroast” coffee.  Following that I think I will go browse the quilt fabrics and pick out some selections to accent a couple window displays I’m working on for the weekend.  One is an April showers theme with umbrellas and soft spring blues and greens in both fabrics and yarns, and the other is a black and white theme with these really cool Della Q bags and accessories in houndstooth check.  Just thinking about it makes me feel better already.  If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by, otherwise I’ll post a picture when I get it completed, now that I know how to download pix from my new cell phone.  Ahhh, the learning curve rises…..

Welcome to the new blog for Ewephoria and Fabrique! We’re up and running, and look forward to having a lot of fun with this.  The next step is to get Mary and Lynn posting about all the cool stuff going on at the shop!
